PHYTOREMEDIATION OF POLLUTED SOIL AND INDUSTRIALLY AFFECTED SUBSOIL OF WASTE STORAGE IN THE COPPER MINING AREAS IN THE SOUTH URAL

Under discussion are copper deposits of the South Ural and their role in pollution of the area with heavy metals, for the first turn, from waste of processing plants. For polluted soil treatment, it is proposed to use the technology of phytoremediation using bio mats of straw and perennial grass seeds capable to extract (accumulate) heavy metals from soil. Perennial grasses enabling maximum removal of heavy metals from soil are selected. Compositions of two-component grass mixtures are put forward. Mechanisms of metal accumulation in plants are determined. The maximum accumulation of metals occurs in leaves; metals are removed from soil with mowed grass and can be disposed after straw burning. Aiming to improve phytoremediation of waste storage areas, it is suggested to use a composite shield layer made of copper smelting slag, cement and clay.
