APPLICATION OF ENERGY-DISPERSIVE X-RAY SPECTROMETERS TO ELEMENT ANALYSIS OF GEOLOGICAL SAMPLES

The capabilities and advantages of energy dispersive x-ray fluorescence analysis to determine material composition of geological samples. The experience of the application of x-ray spectrometer «Respect» for conducting multi-element analysis of powdered geological samples, crystals, and liquid samples.
In the analysis of powder sample, sample mass ~1 g and poured in a cuvette with a base of thin polypropylene film, the cuvette is placed in the carousel, designed for 16 samples. In the analysis of fluids sample volume 20–100 μl applied microdonation on a thin polypropylene film and dried. Analyze dry residue, obtained after drying a drop of the initial solution.
Application of energy dispersive x-ray fluorescence analysis allows simultaneous determination of up to 20–25 elements in the sample. The detection limit of elements in powder samples is n · 10–4%, in liquid samples – n · 10–7% .
