ON A CONCEPT OF FULL-THICKNESS DEVELOPMENT OF THICK ORE BODY BY SUPER-DEEP STEEP WALL OPEN-PIT WITH USING UNDERGROUND EXCAVATIONS
The paper gives some particularities in mining operations during constructing the Kovdorskiy super-deep complex iron open-pit. Development of its deep ore horizons is examined through open-pit orepasses and inclined shafts along ore (the eastern pit wall) and from a working pit wall along overburden. It has been verified that if the eastern pit wall contains weak rock layers in the places of development of conveyer routes, it must be inclined under stable angles, and the parts with weak rocks must be strengthened. The estimation has been made of volumes of driving of main opening excavations and required capital expenditures during realizing alternatives in open mining of the deposit up to the bottom -760 m and -1200 m. It has been shown that open mining is more efficient for these depths in comparison with underground mining in terms of excavations driving volumes and capital expenditures and ore production losses.
