К APPLICATION OF ENERGY STORAGE UNITS AND RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES UNDER LOW TEMPERATURE CONDITIONS

Power supply of production processes is yet an unsettled issue in large Russian areas in the Arctic, Siberia, Yakutia and Far East. It is required to construct stand-alone electric systems using energy storage units and renewable energy sources with the prospects for integration of these self-sustained systems into a unified electric system to handle this problem. In the Arctic, Siberia, Yakutia and Chukotka, power supply will enable reduction in consumption of diesel fuel and lubricants not less than by 2–3 times and will allow enhanced human comfort. This is achievable subject to implementation of the Energy Strategy of Russia to 2030, creation of hybrid energy systems and application of energy storage units and renewable energy sources. One kilowatt hour of energy generated by windmills, solar panels and vacuum collectors costs 3–6 times lower than energy supplied by diesel generators.
