EFFECT OF CRYOGENIC TREATMENT OF HIGHLY DISPERSED WET SANDS ON FORMATION AND DISINTEGRATION OF CLAY BALLS IN DRUM WASHERS

The article presents a study of the adhesive properties of clay aggregates in the process of disintegration with prior cryogenic treatment. The objective of the research is to reveal peculiarities of changes in the adhesive properties of highly dispersed geo-materials with cryogenic treatment and to identify significant factors cryogenic treatment of the Sands (time and temperature, number of cycles of freezing and thawing) affecting the dynamics of formation and destruction of dense clay aggregates in the washing process in machines of the drum type. The tests were conducted on a laboratory model of the washing drum. As test material were used lumps of clay in air-dry and water-saturated condition prior cryogenic treatment and without. During the experiments, the clumps were loaded into the drum with water-clay mixture set humidity, simulating the flushing medium, then measured the time for which they were soaked. Studies evaluating the effect of cryogenic treatment of wet lumpy highclayed sand on the process of disintegration in the washing drum has been experimentally found that after 3 freeze-thaw cycles in the temperature range of cycles from 243 K to 293 K clay lump instantly destroyed in the first minute of disintegration, which subsequently eliminates the formation of the densified clay rolls. At the same time, the lumps without cryogenic treatment in the first minutes accumulated are not washed material, soaked for 10 minute, the samples, after 1 wash cycle freezing and thawing also showed adhesive properties, gaining weight, but become more resistant to disintegration of the lumps were soaked for 20 minute.
