Efficiency of marble production under severe climate conditions mostly depends on a mining method. One of determinants of mineral mining is climate which can be classified as moderate, severe and extreme.

Climate in 8 basic stone-producing regions in Russia is analyzed. It is substantiated that it is expedient to use the hybrid mining method in these regions if open pit mines are set in seasonal operation. To that end, in terms of Kibik-Kordon deposit, the data of weather observations, production output of natural stone blocks and on seasonal dynamics in stress state are examined.

The results show that the length of the open pit mining season should be from April to October. The further research yields the empirical relations between marble surface temperature and air temperature in spring and autumn. These relations support the successful application of the developed procedure to the validation of an operating season duration in any specific conditions of a marble-producing region.
