DESIGNING MINE BELT CONVEYOR ROLLERS OF HIGHER ENDURANCE AND MAINTAINABILITY

In focus of the study is the problem of low endurance of rollers with roller bearings used in mines with heavily dusty air and having maximum life of 1500 hours. The study aims to design mine belt conveyor rollers having endurance 3–5 times higher than the rollers with roller bearings. The author has analyzed designs of rollers of domestic and foreign manufacture. The proposed design of rollers includes metal–fluoroplastic layer slider bearings immune to blocking and capable to operate without lubrication.

The recommendations on improving maintainability of the roller are made. The presented results of bench and acceptance testing of a pilot batch of 30 rollers show that rotating resistance of the pilot model rollers with the barrel-shaped housing of bearing after acceptance testing for 941 hours and conveying of rock quantity of 476 thou t is commensurable with the rotating resistance of the inspection lot of rollers with roller bearings.

The pilot batch of rollers exhibited no overheating or failure. The rollers with metal–fluoroplastic layer slider bearings are recommended by the acceptance board for operation in gas- and dust-hazardous mines.
