SYSTEMIC APPROACH TO PREVENTION OF METHANE EXPLOSIONS IN HIGH-OUTPUT PRODUCTION FACES IN GAS-HAZARDOUS MINES IN KUZBASS

The article describes the systemic approach to methane safety in high-output production faces in mines of any methane hazard category. The range of methane release is calculated at different variables of the inlet-process-outlet system in terms of methane safety for high-output production faces in gas-hazardous mines. The method to determine methane-and-air mixture concentration  in a production face is based on the ‘black box' model: inlet (intake air)-black box (generation
of methane-and-air mixture)-outlet (air return from production face). The calculation of methane concentration in the methane-and-air mixture in the high-output production face area is considered from the viewpoints of physics and chemistry of formation of the methane-and-air mixture, using the molar mass and the molar volume of methane. The alternative scenarios of operation of a production face are calculated at different parameters of methane release from coal and at different
feed velocities of cutter-loaders, with the determination of total mass fraction of methane in methaneand-air mixture. The key elements in the general safety system of a coal mine are identified. The ways of the further stimulation of the research aimed to enhance methane safety in high-output production faces of gas-hazardous mines in Kuzbass are specified.
