INSTALLATION PROSPECTS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF STEEP ANGLE CONVEYOR BELT AT MIKHAILOVSKY MINING AND PROCESSING PLANT

The study object represented by an open pit mine of Mikhailovsky Mining and Processing Plant is described. It is proposed to replace motor and railway transport in the open pit by belt haulage with intent to reduce cost, time, energy and material consumption of haulage, simplify installation as compared with the in-line transfer conveyors, as well as to improve ecology and enhance open pit mine efficiency. The key characteristics of the steep angle conveyor belt were calculated, including capacity, belt width and velocity, and power of motor. Later on, economic factors of optimized operation of such type conveyor at Mikhailovsky Mining and Processing Plant were evaluated. Feasibility study demonstrated efficient operation of the steep angle conveyor belt as with the conveyor installed, fuel consumption would be reduced by 90%, and haulage distance and, consequently, time would be cut down. The prospects of operation are described in the article.
