VALIDATION OF OPEN PIT STAGE DESIGN IN THE TRANSITION PERIODS OF MINING AT STEEPLY DIPPING MINERAL DEPOSITS

The article presents the calculated estimates of influence exerted by open pit mining stage parameters on the duration of the transition period and on the further mining efficiency. Steeply dipping and thick mineral deposits are developed by stages, as a rule. As mining approaches the limits of a current stage, the next mining phase is to be planned and designed. The parameters of the current and furthers stages, as well as the accepted and implemented engineering solutions in the transition period between the mining stages govern in many ways efficiency of mineral resources development. The engineering solutions on parameters of open pit mining stages are discussed in this article in terms of the Malyi Kuibas iron ore mine. In order to ensure efficient open pit mining in the transition period, it is suggested to change concentration of mining operations and equipment in the working zone of open pit and as well as the location site and parameters of internal dumps, which will decrease amount of hauling and reduce stripping cost.
