TRANSFORMATION OF GEOLOGICAL ENVIRONMENT IN COPPER PYRITE MINING IN THE URALS

Development of copper pyrite deposits in the Urals has recently resulted in the transformation of the regional geological environment. It is now required to estimate the alteration of all components of the geological environment, and ecological monitoring of these objects is carried out with this end in view. In terms of the Tarnier deposit, North Urals, and Sultan deposit, South Urals, the details of the alterations under different climate and geology conditions are described. The active interaction between the nature and technology components in the period of technogenesis has brought about mild contamination of soil with heavy metals. The article shows that copper pyrite mining under different natural conditions has different impact on the transformation of surface and ground water: the ground water composition at the Sultan deposit is altered lesser as the deposit is overlaid with the Mesozoic–Cenozoic formations. Beyond the mining lease boundaries, the geological environment has undergone minor changes.
