WORLD ECONOMY AND GAS-HYDRATES

Depletion of oil and gas reserves makes find alternative sources of hydrocarbons. The most promising sources are recognized deposits of gas-hydrates containing natural gas as a solid compound with water. This is a sort of «combustible ice» with methane molecules safely encased in laced ice cells of water molecules. As many researches both in Russian and abroad believe, energy potential of gas-hydrates of the Earth exceed the potential of all other (oil, gas, coal) fossil fuels. During the last 100 years, the Earth’s population has grown 4 times, and energy consumption has increased more than 10 times. In view of the inexorably expanding consumption of energy resources in the world, desire of many countries to find potential energy sources is well explicable. The more so as the world use of energy by the mankind will double on average by 2030 by forecasts of the Energy Information Administration. Rapid economic growth in the world and universal application of energy-intensive technologies contribute to vigorous development of new global energy crisis. Conventional sources of hydrocarbons, namely, oil and natural gas, will be incapable to support the mounting economy and population of the world in years to come, thus, the future belongs to nonconventional gas resources.
