The studies devoted to wax production from bituminous lignite are reviewed. It is shown that mineral wax and its products possess a range of valuable properties (water and acid proofness, low electrical conductivity, etc.), and are irreplaceable in foundry, manufacture of polishing and protective coating blends, in paper and leather industries, cosmetology, medicine, household chemistry and in many other areas of science and production. It is highlighted that an efficient method to produce mineral wax is yet extraction of coal in multiple horizontal extractor, which allows high-quality crude wax production from bituminous lignite of the Tyulgan (South-Ural Basin, Russia) and Alexandria (Dnepr Basin, Ukraine) deposits. The use of benzol and extraction gasoline mixture as a dissolver is of practical interest. It is found that at the same cost and similar results of extraction, the boiling temperature of the extraction gasoline is lower by 30 °С than in gasoline Galosh used earlier. For this reason, the heat consumption of distillation of the extraction gasoline will be also lower. Moreover, the loss of high-boiling fractions with extracted coal will be reduced. The instrumentation and process flow is developed for full-sale plant for annual production of 2500 t of mineral wax from bituminous lignite, and pre-requisites of mineral wax industry in Russia are identified.
