IMPLEMENTATION OF NON-CORE DRILLING FOR OPERATIONAL EXPLORATION IN THE OLON-SHIBIRSKOE COALFIELD AND EVALUATION OF COAL ASH CONTENT

Subsoil structure and quality of mineral reserves are the basic information for effective mining. However, geological exploration data are of insufficient precision for high quality medium- and short-term planning of mining. Additional information on the structure and quality of coal seams is provided by operational exploration. As a rule, operational exploration involves core drilling which, though to the maximum extent informative about the structure of geological section, is yet a labor consuming and expensive process. Non-core drilling is advantageous for lower cost and higher time rate. The method of obtaining information on structural of coal seams in core-core drilling is named mechanical logging. Due to certain differences between physical properties of coal and dirt, Based on the drilling log data, e.g. drilling rate, it is possible to differentiate coal and host rocks, as well as to estimate coal ash content. Moreover, mechanical logging potentially could provide information about physical and mechanical properties of coal formation, geological setting of the coalfield and tectonic dislocations that will help to predict mining conditions more accurate. However, mechanical logging needs to be studied in more details in order to reach greater accuracy and evaluate other quality parameters.
