SHOVEL-BASED DISK CUTTER FOR PRE-EXCAVATION TREATMENT OF FROZEN OVERBURDEN

The patented plant is proposed for softening winter-frozen uppermost layer of overburden by slot cutting on operational sites and slopes of benches using a single-bucket shovel. The implements of the disk cutter are replaceable; thus, it can be removed in summer and the shovel can be employed in actual excavation. The disk cutter plant has a telescopic boom with two disk cutters mounted at the head to cut narrow slots of various depth in frozen rocks. The plant is a substitution for frozen overburden weakening by drilling-and-blasting. The downtime because of removal of the plant for duration of explosion is eliminated, the environmental pressure of open pit mining is reduced and the cost of excavation is cut down. After softening of frozen uppermost layer, the blocks of overburden between slots are chipped out by a single-bucket shovel. The disk cutter capacity ensures trouble-free operation of shovel EKG-17 in chipping-out of softened blocks and excavation of thawed overburden. The disk cutter and the softening method for frozen overburden have no analogs in mining practice in the world.
