Analysis of rock destruction mechanics by PDC cutters with regard to dynamic cutting–shearing processes and resistance

The article analyzes mechanics of rock destruction by PDC cutters with regard to the dynamic processes of cutting–shearing of rocks and resistance of the medium. The medium is understood as the drill fluid with bit cuttings and the layer of fractured unremoved rock. The density of such medium can be high, and, in view of the linear velocity of the cutters and their size (10–25 mm), the influence of such medium can be considerable. It is necessary to take into account both the cutting–shearing dynamics and the influence of the medium when calculating, including computer modeling, and designing drilling bits of high functional quality.
