Analysis of induced seismic events in rockburst-hazardous Nikolaevsk deposit

Geomechanical situation in rockburst-hazardous Nikolaevsk deposit in operation of Dalpolimetal Mining and Metallurgical Company in the east of the Primorski Krai has gravely complicated recently. Rock mass monitoring during mining is carried out using geoacoustic methods as increased acoustic activity of rocks is directly connected with extensive fracturing and initiation of seismic events. The accomplished research was aimed to assess the behavior of seismic event sources in rock mass in the zone of an active fault using the geomonitoring data over a period from 2011 to 2019. The research has found that some events are both natural and induced. The finding is proved by the change in the number of the recorded events after modification of blast patterns. The revealed geomechanical behavior is reflective of complication of mining conditions on lower levels. As stoping is advanced below level –440 m (depth is more than 900 m from ground surface), the probability of dynamic phenomena associated with confining pressure and the risk of induced seismicity essentially grow. It is required to implement integrated geomechanical monitoring to obtain information on properties and tectonic structure of rocks mass for substantiation of activities aimed at regional geodynamic risk reduction.
