Overall safety of recovery and reconstruction of mine shafts

Recovery and reconstruction of mine shafts become actually of increasingly higher concern. The all-up safety is an obligatory condition of the recovery and reconstruction projects, and includes the performance estimation of a shaft, industrial safety expertise and safety validation. The current regulations in this sphere are imperfect and deficient. Therefore, an integrated method is proposed, including the three-level analysis of rock mass around a shaft, stress testing in lining, 3D numerical modeling, as well as the analysis and prediction of structural reliability of the shaft. The article presents a case-study on safety evaluation of lining structure in a shaft after 50 years of operation, with regard to a random distribution of deformation characteristics of concrete exposed to nonuniform loading. The main solutions on maintainability of lining are discussed. It is suggested to ensure safety by means of automated integrated monitoring with real-time acquisition, transfer and processing of data on control variables. As soon as the control values reach the preset thresholds, the automated system warns the authorized personnel.
