Justification of application field and technological parameters of selective heap gold leaching in open pit mining of complex-structure deposits

The article presents the theoretical and experimental research connected with actual problem of geotechnology, namely, processing of low-grade copper–porphyry ore containing disperse gold. The process flow diagram is substantiated for stage-by-stage heap leaching of gold and copper from low-grade oxidation ore of the Malmyzh copper–porphyry deposit. The experimental results of advance activation leaching of gold from coarse ore and from postcrushing slimy fraction using chloride–hypochlorite solutions are given to prove profitable gold recoverability. Gold leaching is followed by copper leaching using sulfuric acid–peroxide and cycling sulfuric acid solutions. Cycling sulfuric acid solutions are enriched with sulfates from oxidation of sulfur of accessory sulfide minerals in additional layer of primary ore placed in the main pile, and with a natural oxidizer represented by ferric iron resulted from additional oxidation of iron in oxide, hydroxide and residual sulfide minerals. The use of the proposed process flow diagram ensures profitable recovery of gold (93–94%) and additional extraction of copper (to 50%) without capital inputs and at minimum operating expenses.
