Geomechanical behavior of deep-level rock mass in Internatsionalny and Mir mines

The mathematical modeling data on the stress–strain behavior of deep-level rock mass in Internatsionalny and Mir mines are reported in the article. The stress–strain analysis of rock mass in Internatsionalny mine is carried out for the hydro-geomechanically hazardous zone of Metegero-Ichersky aquifer representing the risk of water and mash inrushes conducive to dissolution of salt strata and mine destruction. The mining technology approved by Internatsionalny mine for this zone totally eliminates water inflows owing to creation of a protective closed waterproof wall by means of drilling a ring row of boreholes at the ore body and rock mass contact and filling them with solidifying mixtures. The ring wall made of cemented backfill induces no alteration of stresses in rock mass and has no adverse effect on the geomechanical situation, which ensures stability of mine structures and safety of further mining. Correct selection of waterproof backfill parameters can ensure reliable protection of mine excavations from groundwater inflow. On deep levels in Mir mine, with groundwater invasion excluded, it is possible to recommence mining operations. The mathematical modeling of the stress–strain behavior of rock mass under mining was carried out with regard to risk of rock bursts. In the revealed zone of higher rockburst hazard in rock mass, it is necessary to exercise special mining methods to ensure the mine safety.
