Influence of technical parameters, work conditions and operating mode on energy efficiency of single-bucket exactor

The influence exerted by the technical parameters, work conditions and operating mode of a single-bucket excavator with front shovel attachment on the average specific power consumption governing the energy efficiency of the machine operation is studied analytically. The study is relevant for the comparison of energy efficiency of excavators with different attachments, as well as for planning and rating of energy and economic performance of shoveling machines and open pit mines. The analytical calculation procedure is developed for the specific power consumption by shovels with regard to specific digging resistance, availability factor, duration of maintenance and additional technological operations, length of organizational downtime and idle time due to external power supply failure. The calculation of the power consumption by excavators includes load of electric drives of basic mechanisms and electrics of auxiliary systems—lighting, heating, airing, maintenance and repair equipment. The article presents the dependences of the specific power consumption on the shift output of excavator EKG8I at the change in the digging resistance within (0.5—2.5) · 105 Pa with operating mode parameters varied in a wide range. The comparison of the calculated and experimental power characteristics of excavator EKG8I in operating conditions of the Vostochno-Beisky open pit mine of SUEK-Khakassia shows that the calculation accuracy is 9–16%. The variation range is set for the excavator capacity and shift utilization factor with the minimum specific power consumption, and the rise in the specific power consumption with decreasing capacity is assessed quantitatively. Furthermore, the decrease in the specific power consumption with increasing availability factor, characterizing reliability of excavator is quantified. It is shown that the use of the variable frequency drive instead of the generator–motor system for basic mechanisms of a single-bucket excavator allows reducing the specific power consumption of the machine by 20–25%. The developed procedure and research findings are applicable in planning and rating of parameters for energy efficiency improvement of excavating machines.
