Testing data on operational control of shearers in high-productive longwalls

Highly productive longwall mining of gassy coal seams is accompanied by increased methane emissions. The gas criterion becomes the main restraint for improvement of mining safety and efficiency. Longwall performance is governed by the advance speed of shearer and its running time per day. The rate of methane emission in longwalls in gassy coal seams depends on the permanently varying volume of coal haulage within an extraction panel. For this reason, the best performance of shearers is different in various specific geological and geotechnical conditions. This study focuses on possible enhancement of the longwall system efficiency through operational control. To implement operational control of a shearer, the mathematical model is developed with regard to broken coal flow formation within an extraction panel. Aiming to check the model adequacy, the operating parameters of a longwall system were measured in an operating longwall at different advance speeds of the shearer. Performance of a shearer with the same parameters was implemented using the model. The comparison shows a good agreement of the data, which proves applicability of the research results.
