Technological scheme for steam-gas activation of brown coal

The technological scheme is a sequential list of all operations and processes for processing raw materials to obtain sorbents. The scheme begins with the receipt of raw materials and ends with the release of finished products. The article defines the optimal parameters for steam-gas activation of brown coals of the Kharanorsky, Kangalassky, Kirovsky and OkinoKlyuchevskoye deposits: activation without carbonization step, steam-gas reagent consumption – 250–300 ml/hour, thermolysis at 800 °C, exposure time of steam-gas activation during isothermal holding – 60 min. Optimal process parameters and the most efficient sequence of operations are the basis of the technological scheme of steam-gas activation of brown coal. The developed process flow diagram for the process of obtaining sorbents by the steam-gas activation method makes it possible to obtain high-quality sorbents with an iodine adsorption activity of at least 50%. Activated carbons with such qualitative characteristics are currently widely used in the food, chemical, pharmaceutical, gas and oil processing industries, as well as in wastewater treatment and flotation of non-ferrous metal ores. The application of the developed technological scheme for the process of obtaining sorbents by the method of steam-gas activation with the predicted result of the value of adsorption activity for iodine is possible on brown coals from other deposits with similar initial quality characteristics.

Keywords: brown coal, steam-gas activation, carbon sorbents, activated carbon, iodine adsorption activity, isothermal exposure, thermal shock.
