PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL WEATHERING OF ROCK MASSES IN PERMAFROST ENVIRONMENTS

The energy supply, and the processes of chemical and physical erosion of rocks in the permafrost zone are characterized. The basic mechanisms of physical and chemical erosion of rocks are discussed. The estimate is given for the rate of physical and chemical erosion of rocks under temperature variation in the negative range. It is proved that the chemical erosion rate of permafrost rocks is much lower than the physical erosion rate. Based on structuring of the permafrost zone relative to kinetics and mechanics of cryogenesis, it is suggested to assume this zone as the cryogenic weathered layer.
