Academic degree and rank: Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Engineering Sciences, Professor 

Professional activity: Leading scientist in the area of integrated mineral mining. Contributed greatly to the advance in the theory of hard mineral mining-induced subsoil transformation and to the development of highly efficient and safe geotechnologies for extraction of ores, diamonds and gassy coal. V. Zakharov is one of the originators and developers of mine geophysics and geocontrol.
V. Zakharov headed basic researches undertaken at IPKON RAS in the framework of the Basic Research Program for the State Academies of Sciences for 2012–2013. 
Director of IPKON RAS since 2011.

•    Miner’ Glory Badge of the First and Third Degree
