Alternative preparation of mining waste for metal leaching

At present the new environmental standards of permissible integrated impact exerted by mining on the environment, including standard specifications of negative impact per unit product, maximum allowable ecological concentrations and maximum permissible environmental pressure, are under development. The subject of this research is mineral raw materials contained in manmade deposits in gold mining provinces of Transbaikalia. Technological testing of gold-bearing quartz-sulfide waste is performed. Before cyanide leaching, old flotation tailings were treated with active solutions containing compound chemicals, namely, hydrogen peroxide in meta-stable and/or permanent meta-stable forms after photolysis or radiolysis processes; sulfuric acid peroxide and carbonate peroxide produced by electrochemical and photochemical synthesis; meta-stable peroxide hydroxide and hydroxide cyanide produced in liquid phase of pulp by gentle electrolysis. The studies confirm that the new methods of pulp preparation are effective: gold recovery is increased by 12.5% (from 47.7% to 60.2%) as compared to the reference check circuit. The laboratory tests with the active complexing agent (sulfuric acid peroxide and carbonate peroxide solution after photoelectrochemical treatment) increased gold recovery from mineral mining waste by 15.5% (from 36.1% to 51.1%).
