Torsional vibrations of rotors of axial mine fans with two impellers

The study discusses design of rotors of main fans with two impellers that function alternatively as impellers and guide vanes. Such engineering solution allows reversal ventilation capacity at 90–95% of vent capacity in direct mode. The presence of two impellers in alternate operation governs the rotor group frequency behavior dependent on the working mode of fan— direct or reversal. Analysis of the frequency behavior allows estimating frequencies of rotor self-oscillations for detuning forced frequencies and for detecting higher stress zones during unsteady behavior of a fan when started. The analysis of the rotor frequencies obtained from solving a system of differential equations of rotations is presented. The temporal variations in the angles of torque of main shafts and in the associated tangential stresses at fan starting are determined. It is shown that the stresses at the moment of start can by an order of magnitude higher than the stresses in the steady-state mode, which requires an extremely careful design of such type fans as the increased stresses affect the service life of a shaft and the reliability of the whole fan. The decrease in the stress amplitudes at the fan starting is achievable through the use of an adjustable frequency drive at an extended startup time of a fan.
