Decorative stone industry: Global situation and prospects in Russia

The article gives statistical data on advancement in the stone industry in top countries of the world in two recent decades. It is emphasized that the key factors of quantitative and qualitative growth of the global decorative stone industry are the rapid increase in civil construction in developing countries, as well as the creation and use of technological innovations in dimension stone production and processing. It is shown that globalization in the stone production and processing industry is unavoidably connected with international specialization of the global decorative stone market and stone production, with improvement of process equipment and tools, as well as with the formation of a unified global standardization, information and market infrastructure. The information from the State Balance Sheet on proved reserves of natural dimension stone and on the deposits currently under mining in Russia by the beginning of 2020 is generalized. The comparative analysis of the state-of-the-art in the global and domestic industry of stone is performed. On the ground of the innovative development strategy in the construction industry and based on the analysis of technological level of the stone making industries, the management concept is substantiated for the modernization in the domestic industry of natural stone production. The concept rests upon the return of the constructional material industry into the governmental supervision as an independent industry within the subsector of nonmetallic construction materials. The program and modes are proposed for the integrated training of qualified specialists for the stone production and manufacturing plants, as well as for the new artificial decorative stones and products.
