Analysis of dust and gas pollution of the environment in upland quarrying

This study addresses issues of minimization of dust and gas pollution of the environment in upland quarrying as a case-study of the Dolomit Quarry. The information on the open pit mining method is given in terms of one of the world’s largest dolomite deposits–Bosninskoe. The type design is proposed for the factors of manmade influence on ecosystems and mining-induced damage of ecosystems. The research procedure and the quantitative data of generation and propagation of dust and gas fractions depending on variables are presented. The statistical and calculated data are compared at the same capacity of the quarry. The researchfindings on the contents of dust and gas fractions depending on the parameters of rock breaking and haulage are described. The technology of bench mining with blasting in adits is described. The model of dust and gas propagation is developed. It is proposed to rank soil by the index of pollution in case of application of the alternative mining technologies. The conclusion is drawn that the environmental impact of upland quarrying can be minimized using the proposed model.
