Analysis of gold mining waste accumulations as landscape systems

This work highlights the depletion of natural resources and accumulation of useful minerals in mining waste dumps and tailings ponds. One of the ways to solve this problem is mining waste processing. In Russia, this practice is poorly developed, and there are a few problems that prevent its full implementation in production. The critical point in this regard is an appropriate regulatory framework and provision of the governmental support to subsoil users. The backbone sectors in the economy of Russia are the gold mining and gold processing industries. In this study, gold-bearing mining waste is discussed in the context of the preliminary appraisal procedure under development. The environmental problems are considered as a set of contradictions between consumption and self-regeneration of natural resources. The generalized criteria for estimation and prediction of environmental indicators of manmade deposits are determined. For the environmental assessment and forecasting, it is proposed to use the generalized criteria and information technologies applied to landscape systems. To that end, it is possible to use the mathematical apparatus of the potential theory.
