Integrated research of mineral resources in the mountain taiga subzone of the Kemerovo Region–Kuzbass, and their applicability in disturbed land reclamation

The integrated research of mineral resources in the Kemerovo Region–Kuzbass mountain taiga subzone are implemented to obtain actual information on their applicability in reclamation of disturbed land. It is found that all Quaternary sediments, irrespectively of the level of occurrence, are dominated by quartz and clayey minerals (hydromica, hydromuscovite, chlorite, mixed-layer minerals and montmorillonite minerals) possessing high dispersivity and absorptivity. This governs their hydrophysical properties and hydrophilic behavior, namely, the ability to create ‘depots’ of accessible moisture for plants, which has a favorable effect on water supply of plant communities. Overburden rocks are broken into categories of biological applicability by basic agrochemical, physicochemical and biological indexes for the mountain taiga subzone of Kubass with regard to soil formation (mineral composition, content of organic carbon and basic plant food elements, content of physical clay fraction). It is found that the best resources for reclamation of disturbed land and creation of artificial soil (manmade soil) on the surface of industrial landscapes are: fertile soil layer containing a ‘bank’ of seeds, plant germs and soil biota; Quaternary sediments (category I limon). In case of the lack of the latter, it is expedient to use a mixture of clay loam with inclusion of weakly rounded pebbles, bed rock stones and weathered sandstone of category II.
