Tectonic fault prediction procedure based on reinterpretation of geological exploration data

Mining operations in complicated geological conditions and at intensive structural and tectonic faulting of rock mass prioritizes prediction and precise location of tectonically active faults and structural weakening zones as they are accompanied with the most intensive and hazardous geodynamic events and processes. The current procedures in delineation of tectonic blocks use not only geological methods but also involve integrated interpretation of geomorphological, geophysical and geodetic data. The structural geology and engineering geology research on the scale of a region, a mineral deposit and an individual site includes a few stages. First, a block structure is delineated in a test subsoil area by the methods of structural morphometry using different scale maps, and aerial and satellite imagery. Then, reinterpretation of geological exploration data is performed to adjust and verify the delineated boundaries of tectonic blocks. The data reinterpretation is required if the structural interpretation is implemented only using the data of exploration drilling, without regard to a block structure of rock mass, without special dedicated studies into tectonic faulting and without delineation of the block structure of a mineral deposit. This article discusses the key points of a prediction procedure of tectonic faults detected at the solid mineral deposits based on the reinterpretation of geological exploration data. This tectonic fault prediction procedure is a tool of the additional analysis of available data on geological and tectonic structure of deposits, and aims to improve reliability of prediction of tectonic faults.

Keywords: tectonic faults, block structure, geodynamic zoning of mineral deposit, geodynamics, prediction of tectonic faults, reinterpretation, geological exploration operations, threedimensional frame.
