Methodological substantiation of the dynamics of the environment-forming potential of oil and gas-bearing territories

Forest ecosystems, soil variations, and subsoil are important elements in analyzing the conditions of a territory during hydrocarbon production in oil and gas regions. Because of hydrocarbon extraction, the environment-forming potential of a territory, which includes a range of natural, climatic, physical, geographical, and ecological-economic factors, decreases due to intensive anthropogenic impact. Therefore, a group of researchers identified a pressing scientific and technical challenge. The solution to this challenge, using a developed set of methods, allows for tracking the dynamics of changes in the environment-forming potential of oil and gas regions based on Earth remote sensing data. The scientific novelty of this work lies in the methodological justification for analyzing the transformation of environment-forming potential with the aim of identifying and preventing a number of negative processes exacerbated by anthropogenic impact, as established using remote sensing during engineering and environmental surveys and land monitoring. The object of this study is the totality of negative processes on lands used for forestry, agriculture, industry, energy, transportation, communications, broadcasting, television, information technology, space activities, defense, security, and other special purposes. These processes influence the environmental potential of oil and gas-bearing territories, especially under anthropogenic impacts.

Keywords: interpretation, remote sensing, land use, space images, landscape, oil and gas areas, engineering and environmental research, land monitoring, hydrocarbon raw materials, environment-forming potential.
