Modeling parameters of road heading under conditions of high-gas coal seams

Authors: Shulyatieva L.I.

Influence of gas dynamics on process parameters of road heading governs timing of drivage and is a pressing problem. This article reviews the studies aimed at development of process flowsheets for coal seam drainage, and gas drainage flowsheets are determined for road heading process on this basis. It is found that high-speed road heading is impossible without pre-mine drainage of high-gas coal seams. It is proved that safe preliminary development requires justification of optimized gas drainage parameters. The study involved a barrier gas-drainage drill chart where the number and length of well depended on the gas-dynamic condition of coal. The review of the published scientific studies shows that they mostly address gas-dynamic events, their causes, coal seam drainage methods applied and problems arising during implementation. When developing a time schedule of the preliminary development, the speed and labor content of road heading should be substantiated with regard to the gas drainage parameters. A model is proposed for the justification of the process parameters of road heading in high-gas coal seams in connection with the parameters of the gas drainage flowsheets with barrier wells and with regard to the geological and geotechnical parameters. The model makes it possible to justify the speed of the heading process at its preserved safety. The research findings can be used in development of a time schedule for the preliminary development works.
