Modernization of direct torque control and its influence on energy efficiency of asynchronous motors of battery-powered mining hauling machines

In the conditions of modernization of the mining sector in Vietnam, one of the key challenges is creation of energy-efficient and environmentally safe mining hauling machines. This study analyzes an automated asynchronous motor with the battery power supply featuring variable output voltage. The aim of the study is to enhance the dynamic and energy performance of the asynchronous motors through the system of the direct torque control including a six-position torque limiter and a two-position stator flux-linkage regulator. The power converter is a three-level neutral point clamped inverter. Modeling is performed in Matlab/Simulink. The comparative analysis of the direct torque control is carried out with one and two battery power supplies using the inverter control table developed by the author. The research findings show that the use of two batteries ensures more stable output voltage, decreases pulsation of torque and stator flux-linkage, and improves dynamic performance of the motor. The proposed solutions enhance the energy efficiency of the test system and are applicable to design of advanced mining hauling machines.
