Evaluation of the efficiency of maintenance of quarry excavators by the share of repair downtime

This article presents the results of an analysis of data from monitoring the technical condition and maintenance and repair work performed on EKG-20 open-pit copper ore mining excavators in the open pit mines of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The article focuses on the impact of maintenance and repair (M&R) strategies on equipment reliability and performance. A M&R coefficient reflecting the ratio of scheduled to emergency repair downtime is proposed, which serves as a criterion for assessing the effectiveness of the M&R system. Based on excavator monitoring data, the average M&R coefficient was determined for the M&R strategy adopted at the quarry. This coefficient indicates the level and quality of equipment technical condition management. Failure distribution patterns and monthly operating time of excavators are established. A rationale is provided for the conclusion that increasing the proportion of scheduled activities reduces the likelihood of unscheduled downtime; however, their effectiveness depends on the intensity of operation and the quality of work organization. The conducted study allows us to quantitatively characterize the M&R coefficient for excavators and identify statistical patterns reflecting their actual condition and reliability. The study substantiates the choice of a combined maintenance and repair strategy integrating elements of predictive analytics and the CM&R (Conscientious Maintenance and Repair) concept, which optimizes costs and improves equipment reliability. The obtained data can be used to develop adaptive systems for managing the technical condition of excavators in challenging mining and geological conditions.
