Influence of power quality factors on performance efficiency of electrotechnical systems of coal mines

The article describes assessment of influence exerted by power quality on performance efficiency of an electrotechnical system of a coal mine. It is substantiated to be relevant to evaluate the influence of higher harmonics on the performance efficiency of the electrotechnical system of a high-capacity coal mine. This is governed by an increase in the quantity of equipment with the converter loads in electrical drives, which generates higher current and voltage harmonics that affect the performance efficiency of the electrotechnical systems of coal mines. Such impact: leads to disturbance of rated duty of the main process equipment and decreases its production capacity; induces false response of emergency protection modes in power supply systems, which brings downtime of equipment and reduces its service life, including excessive wear of insulation of cable lines. The latter elevates the risk of accidents, which is intolerable in coal mines where hazard of gas and dust outbursts is very high. It is proposed to use the combination of Matlab-based simulation modeling and decomposition analysis of electrotechnical systems to study influence of a converter load on quality of electric power in power supply systems of coal mines. A synthesized simulation model of a coal mine power supply system is presented for the analysis of generation of higher harmonics. The experimental research carried out in coal mines and the simulation modeling of generation of higher harmonics revealed some consistent patterns which allow assessment of influence exerted by total harmonic voltage distortion on voltage distortion in electrotechnical systems of coal mines.
