Ground pressure-related phenomena in in-seam roadways in Yalevsky mine

Ground pressure-related phenomena are investigated in in-seam roadways in Yalevsky mine. The test gateways driven in a thick seam show some instability features to be urgently analyzed. The research is carried out both in roadways exposed to longwall operation impact and in new unaffected headings. The research procedure includes visual inspection of mine openings and support, instrumental measurements in adjacent rock mass and theoretical justification of ground pressure parameters. The revealed ground pressure behavior shows that the ground pressure-related phenomena are the most intense in sidewalls in drifts, improve in the course of time and intensify in roof after advance of the longwall face. The identified ground pressure-related phenomena which affect operating conditions in mine openings are: movements of roof and floor rocks, coal sloughing at the top of sidewalls and in roof, roof collapse, coal sloughing in the middle and at the bottom of sidewalls, i.e. beneath the support installation, and layered displacement of coal in sidewalls. The ground pressure-related phenomena are theoretically justified, and the instrumental measurement data are interpreted. The minimum specified bolt density fails to ensure stability of sidewalls in high headings even out of influence zone of longwall operations.
