Integrated development potential of watered areas in oil and gas condensate reservoirs

Extraction of residual gas and condensate from watered areas of oil and gas reservoirs is an actual problem in Russia. The late and final phases of hydrocarbon extraction from oil and gas condensate reservoirs are complicated by inundation, failure of bottom-hole formation zone and by other aggravating factors which favor liquid phase formation of heavier hydrocarbons and natural gas trapping. In such conditions, extraction of residual hydrocarbons from watered reservoirs can be combined with commercialscale production of groundwater as a valuable hydromineral resource. Development and introduction of engineering solutions on joint extraction of reservoir water and residual hydrocarbons can extend producing life of a reservoir, enhance hydrocarbon extractability and get extra profit. Joint production of hydrocarbons and hydromineral resources deserves attention of private companies in the fuel and energy sector and of governmental agencies engaged in the sector planning. The implemented research findings prove feasibility and economic expediency of joint extraction of hydrocarbons and groundwater with creation of hydromineral production operations in the fields where hydrocarbon recovery has declined.
