Enhancement of energy efficiency of mines using fractional energy models in calculations

The article addresses a relevant problem connected with enhancement of energy efficiency of production in the mining industry. The types of the most energy-consuming works are reviewed. In particular, the process activity involved in drilling and blasting, as well as the approaches to blasting design are analyzed. Advantages and disadvantages of the existing models are demonstrated. A new fractional energy digital model is proposed. It enables both on-line computation and prediction. The article gives details of the theory of the fractional energy modeling in drilling and blasting. The proposed calculation method uses the physical laws of similarity of drilling and blasting parameters, which allows calculation of output blast parameters using the current values of input parameters within a framework of the unified theoretical approach. The algorithm of the current blast design control is presented. The computational test data are given in the form of tables. The rational drilling design is analyzed. The article shows that efficiency promotion in drilling design process enables reduced axial loading and energy input in drilling, as well as a larger size of drill cuttings. It is found that the decrease in the axial loading and energy input in drilling proportionally increases durability of drill bits, which lowers the cost of drilling.

Keywords: energy efficiency, mathematical modeling, optimization, drilling and blasting, specific cost, energy input, finely dispersed fragmentation, rock hardness.
