Calculation of setting limits for electric traction network of mining locomotives

Authors: Abramov E. Yu.

To protect against short-circuit currents in the traction network of the GDPs, at present, class current-pulse protection (MIZ) is mainly used. Setting the protection settings based on the results of the analytical calculation does not ensure its reliable functioning. In a number of publications, including the authors of this article, it is proposed to correct the results of analytical calculation using mathematical modeling and then additionally with subsequent correction based on the results of monitoring. Mathematical modeling of the traction network, due to the non-standard type of network and related features of the object (described below) is difficult and the model will be individual for each feeder. The process of setting the setpoint can be carried out without mathematical modeling according to the characteristics of the protection operation, using the following. A switch with an inductive shunt or a differential relay reacts to a smooth increase in current and current surges at high speed in different ways, which is due to the design of a high-speed constant current switch with an inductive shunt or a DC relay of the RDSH or RPT-46 type. Thus, there can be two types of setting the protection setpoint: by the current value (in this case we have the maximum current protection (MTZ)) or by the rate of current rise (then we have the maximum pulse protection (MIZ). If the protection is built from the load current, but the short-circuit currents at the end of the feeder zone will be less than the maximum operating currents, in this case the MTZ protection will not work, but the MIZ should work. The experience of operation of classical current-pulse protection revealed difficulties in selecting the setpoint, determining the range of MTZ and MIZ, as well as coordinating the setpoint and selectivity of protection operation. As a result of the research carried out by the authors, a method for selecting the setpoint of the MIZ, the area of operation, taking into account the parameters of the traction network section and the traction substation according to the characteristics of the operation of a differential relay of the RDSH or RPT-46 type, which significantly increased the reliability of the classical current-pulse protection.
