Natural and man-made seismic activity of the eastern Orenburg region

A high level of seismic activity is observed in the eastern part of the Orenburg region. A brief description of the tectonic structure of the studied territory is given. The areas of regional and sub-regional tectonic structures within the administrative boundaries of the Orenburg region are calculated. Statistical data of seismic events from 2006 to 2023 are presented. Their analysis has been carried out. The released seismic energy in the studied area for 2018–2020 was calculated, as well as the specific energy density and the specific density of seismic events. A direct correlation between technological ex-plosions and recorded seismic events has been revealed. Tectonic earthquakes that occurred at night, when drilling and blasting are prohibited, have been identified. The analysis of technogenic and tectonic seismic activity is carried out. The percentage of tectonic earthquakes that occurred at night is calculated from the total number of seis-mic events. The total number of tectonic earthquakes for the statistical period was cal-culated. Tectonic structures with the greatest natural geodynamic activity have been identified. Tectonic earthquakes are analyzed by magnitude. Conclusions are drawn about the possible exceeding of the threshold of seismic safety according to the SRS-2016.
