M. Kurlenya is a distinguished and active scientist in the field of geomechanics, physical phenomena and mining-induced processes in rocks, integrated mineral development under complicated mining and geological conditions. He develops theoretical foundations for stress assessment in rocks (methods of destressing, borehole drilling, dilatometric analysis, hydraulic fracturing, test-and-analysis), is engaged in engineering and manufacture supervision of a new-generation standardized equipment for geomechanical research.
